The Wiki is a simple implementation of a hierarchical knowledge-base. It is not a perfect solution since it is based on Microsoft Word documents (so you have proper formatting) and temporary PDF files. But it works and allows you to write documentation and supporting articles that you can import and export as well.
While the Word documents are saved, the IT Assets database saves all word in plain text to a field in the database. This allows a full text based search through the articles.
You need to configure the right Sys Config values for the Wiki paths to have it work properly. The files are stored in the file system not directly in the database. This avoids unnecessary growth of the database and for you easy to retrieve files in case you want to move away from it.
The treeview control used in the Wiki is open source – a big thank you goes to Jan Karel Pieterse for developing and providing it as a free control.
